Festival in a Box 2026 — Mystery Box 2 is coming to Yreka I still can’t quite believe I’m writing this, but Festival in a Box 2026 — Mystery Box 2  is actually coming to Purple Dragon Games … which means Yreka is about to experience its first ever Chaos Draft . This is one of those moments where the Magic community gets a tiny portal to something that normally only happens in major cities like Las Vegas. MagicCon events feel almost mythic when you follow them online. Packed halls, collectors hunting for elusive pulls, Commander tables firing nonstop, and draft pods forming every few minutes like ritual circles of cardboard strategy. We wanted to bring a small piece of that experience here. And honestly… getting these boxes felt like a quest. We did not receive any special treatment or priority. With the help of one of our local Magic veterans, we joined the online queue early one Monday morning when Secret Lair opened orders. We sat in the digital waiting room for over an hour, watching the timer tick down like a suspenseful upkeep phase. Even after waiting, there is never a guarantee you will actually be able to purchase one. The process is famously intense. You wait. Then suddenly… you are randomly teleported to checkout. From there, you have ten minutes  to complete your order or the box disappears back into the aether for someone else to claim. No holds. No extensions. Miss the window and the opportunity is gone. That rarity is part of what makes these boxes legendary. Festival in a Box products are designed to replicate the MagicCon experience at home, and Mystery Box editions in particular are famous for their unpredictable card pools, unexpected reprints, and unique draft environments that feel completely different from normal set drafts. A Chaos Draft is exactly what it sounds like: each pack comes from a different set or environment, meaning every pick feels like solving a new puzzle. Synergies appear in unexpected ways. Strategies evolve mid-draft. Deck-building becomes a creative challenge rather than a solved formula. No two Chaos Draft decks ever feel the same. Mystery Box releases are especially loved because they often include: a massive variety of cards across Magic history valuable reprints players rarely see in circulation unusual draft interactions that reward clever thinking surprises that can’t easily be predicted or replicated Last year’s Mystery Box 1 created waves across the Magic community, with players sharing stories of wild pulls, strange deck combinations, and the sheer fun of drafting outside the normal meta structure. The Old Newspaper Building at 309 S. Broadway Street in Yreka holds more than 6,800 square feet of space and a rich history tied to the town’s past. In October 2025, Purple Dragon Games purchased this landmark with a clear vision: to turn it into a vibrant creative hub for gamers, artists, and the local community. Breathing New Life into a Historic Space The Old Newspaper Building has stood as a silent witness to Yreka’s history for decades. Unfortunately, years of neglect and abandonment left the building in poor condition. Roof leaks, damaged flooring, and outdated infrastructure are just a few of the issues Purple Dragon Games inherited. Despite these challenges, the team saw potential in the building’s size and location to create something unique. The goal is to restore the building in phases, starting with essential repairs to make the space safe and welcoming. This approach allows the community to gradually experience the transformation while supporting ongoing improvements. The project is not just about fixing a building; it’s about preserving a piece of Yreka’s heritage and giving it a new purpose. A Hub for Gaming and Creative Events Purple Dragon Games plans to fill the space with activities that bring people together around shared interests. The building will host a variety of events, including: Trading Card Game (TCG) player gatherings and draft tournaments featuring popular games like Magic the Gathering and Pokemon . These events encourage friendly competition and community bonding. Board game learning sessions where newcomers can discover new games and veterans can share strategies. Flooring and interior renovations to create safe, comfortable spaces for events and retail. Upgrading utilities and lighting to modern standards while respecting the building’s character. Designing flexible areas that can host different types of gatherings and workshops. Ongoing maintenance and improvements based on community feedback and evolving needs. This phased approach allows the project to move forward without overwhelming resources and ensures the building remains functional throughout the process. Purple Dragon Games at the Golden State Fair From August 6–11 , Purple Dragon Games had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Golden State Fair —and what an amazing experience it was! Our booth was buzzing with excitement all week long. We brought a treasure trove of trading cards, comics, board games, and unique novelties  that captured the imagination of fairgoers young and old. One of the biggest highlights was our hair tinsel event , where visitors lined up to add a bit of sparkle and shine to their fair experience—bringing joy, laughter, and a touch of magic to the midway. The fair was more than just sales; it was about connection . We loved meeting so many people who share our passion for games, collectibles, and creativity. The outpouring of support from our community was overwhelming, and it reminded us why we do what we do. Every smile, every trade, every curious question at the booth made the week unforgettable. We’re so grateful to everyone who stopped by to shop, say hello, or join in the fun. Your energy and excitement made this event a true success for us. As we pack away the booth and look ahead, we’re already excited for the next opportunity to bring Purple Dragon Games out into the community. On Friday, July 26th , from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM , our tables will be open for trading, buying, selling, and learning — and best of all, there’s no entry fee . Everyone is welcome to come and participate at their own pace. What to expect: At Trade Night, our focus is on creating a friendly, open atmosphere where card game enthusiasts of all kinds can meet and share their passion. Bring your collection and browse what others have to offer, or just come to watch and learn if you’re interested in getting started. Here’s what you can look forward to: Buy, sell, or trade  your cards with other players in a casual, welcoming setting. Browse collections  to see rare, unique, and valuable cards. Meet other players and collectors , exchange tips, and build your network in the community. Learn the ropes  of card trading if you’re new — we’re happy to help you understand how it works and what to look for.
