Start Your Engines for GT Racing Sim Night!

This Friday, September 25, Purple Dragon Games is trading dice rolls for gear shifts and turning part of the store into a miniature racing paddock. Join us from 5:00–8:00 p.m. for GT Racing Sim Night, a free, all-ages racing challenge featuring Gran Turismo Sport and a complete steering wheel, accelerator and brake-pedal setup.

Admission is completely free. No racing experience, special equipment or suspiciously expensive fireproof suit is required. Just bring yourself, take a seat behind the wheel and try to put down the fastest lap of the night.

Every participant will receive time to learn the selected track, become comfortable with the car and complete a few respectable warm-up laps before making an official attempt. We do not expect anyone to sit down cold, immediately recognize every corner and drive like a professional. You will have time to learn where the track goes, discover how sensitive the brakes are and experience the ancient racing lesson known as, “That turn arrived much sooner than expected.”

Once you feel ready, it is time to race against the clock.

Your best official time will be added to our GT leaderboard, where you can compare your performance with the rest of the group and begin building your reputation as one of Purple Dragon Games’ fastest drivers. The racer who claims the top eligible time will win a $5 Dragon Coin to use at the store. The leaderboard will also give returning drivers something to defend—or something to chase—when GT Racing Sim Night returns.

Gran Turismo Sport offers an enormous variety of racing environments, which means every gathering can present a different kind of challenge. One month may place drivers on a compact speedway where confidence and smooth steering make all the difference. Another may send everyone to a technical road circuit filled with elevation changes, tight braking zones and corners that appear specifically designed to humble people.

Drivers may encounter famous real-world circuits such as WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, with its dramatic downhill Corkscrew, or Fuji Speedway, known for its long straight followed by a demanding technical section. We may also visit original Gran Turismo courses such as Dragon Trail, Autodrome Lago Maggiore or Tokyo Expressway. There are traditional road courses, illuminated city routes, fast ovals and even dirt tracks where the phrase “controlled slide” sometimes means “I absolutely intended to do that.”

GT Racing Sim Night is not only about one person setting a fast time. It is a group project built around helping everyone improve. Players watch one another’s laps, point out difficult corners, share braking markers and celebrate small victories. One driver may discover a cleaner line through a hairpin. Another may finally complete a lap without introducing the car to a wall. Both achievements deserve respect.

As the group continues playing, we will also work together to build the game’s garage, earn access to additional cars and expand the selection available for future challenges. That shared progress means every session can grow. New vehicles bring different handling, speed and personality to the track, giving us more combinations to explore during future racing nights.

You do not need to know anything about cars to participate. Experienced racing-game players are welcome to chase fractions of a second, but complete beginners will receive the same warm-up time, encouragement and opportunity to compete. Younger racers, parents, casual players and serious time-trial hunters are all welcome. The atmosphere is friendly, and the only thing we ask everyone to leave at home is actual road rage.

There will be plenty of good company between turns. Watch the other drivers, talk strategy, cheer for a great lap and offer the traditional consolation given after a spectacular spinout: “You were really moving before that happened.”

The wheel-and-pedal setup makes the experience much more physical and exciting than an ordinary controller. You will feel yourself working the steering wheel through corners, carefully pressing the accelerator as the car finds traction and braking hard as the next turn rushes toward you. It creates the tension of a real time trial without the repair bill, tire bill or uncomfortable conversation with an insurance company.

Come by Purple Dragon Games this Friday, September 25, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. Admission is free, all ages are welcome and everyone gets an opportunity to drive.

Warm up. Learn the track. Set your time. Join the leaderboard. Win the $5 Dragon Coin.

Then spend the rest of the evening explaining how your fastest lap would have been even faster if that one corner had behaved itself.
