Hello everyone! Purple Dragon Games will be attending the Golden State Fair from June 24-28! Because of the preparation before the event and cleanup afterward, we will have a few temporary closures during this period. Please review the schedule for June 21 through July 4 to see our adjusted hours while we're away at the fair. Good news: all days marked in green will continue with our normal open gaming hours from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, so you're still welcome to come in, play games, meet friends, and enjoy the shop without interruption. We'll also be hosting our Magic: The Gathering Superheroes Drafts on June 26 and June 27, so be sure to join us for those exciting events! SUMMER IS HERE AT PURPLE DRAGON GAMES... AND THE TABLES ARE ABOUT TO GET LOUD. There’s something special happening at Purple Dragon Games right now. You can feel it when you walk through the door. Dice clattering. Deck boxes snapping open. New players nervously learning their first game while veterans argue about the “correct” play in the most dramatic way possible. Summer at the shop always has energy, but this year? This year feels like a full-on campaign expansion. We’ve been quietly building, testing, experimenting, and growing communities all across the store over the last several months, and now the Summer Schedule is officially STACKED with returning favorites and brand-new adventures. Of course, the heavy hitters are still going strong. Our Friday and Sunday MTG groups continue to be absolute chaos in the best possible way. Commander tables fire constantly, trades happen every five minutes, and there’s always at least one player trying to pull off something completely unhinged with a deck they built at 2am. Fridays especially have become a full social gathering where players bounce between games, snacks, deck tuning, and joking around for hours. Sundays bring a slightly more laid-back vibe, but the tables still stay busy deep into the evening. Pokemon continues to explode too. League nights, challenges, theme events, and our growing family-friendly atmosphere have made Pokemon one of the happiest communities in the building. Summer Game Festivals are returning as well, bringing themed nights, activities, prizes, goofy challenges, and all kinds of fun surprises. These events have become one of our favorite things we do because they feel less like tournaments and more like walking into a gaming carnival. BUT NOW… LET’S TALK ABOUT THE NEW STUFF. Lorcana players, your time has arrived. We now officially have Organized Play Theme Nights coming this summer! These nights are designed to feel more adventurous and interactive than standard play. Expect themed challenges, unique objectives, cool promo prizes, achievement-style gameplay, casual-friendly environments, and events that feel like stepping into a Disney adventure campaign instead of simply sitting down for rounds. One week you might be hunting lore through special challenge rules. Another week might feature alliance-style games or villain-themed objectives. We want these nights to feel magical, social, and wildly memorable. Lorcana has one of the friendliest communities in the store right now, and we’re excited to help it grow into something truly special. Board game fans ALSO finally have something huge coming. Introducing: THE TABLETOP GUILD. This is something we’ve wanted to build for a long time. The Tabletop Guild is designed for people who LOVE modern board games and want an actual consistent community to enjoy them with. Not just “bring a game and hope somebody plays.” We’re talking real organized gatherings, themed game nights, discovery tables, rotating spotlight games, party games, strategy nights, co-op adventures, social deduction chaos, and opportunities for people to actually learn games together. One table might be running Everdell while another group is screaming over betrayal mechanics in a hidden traitor game. Somebody else might be building giant engines in Terraforming Mars while another crew is introducing gateway games to completely new players. Board gaming is having a massive renaissance right now, and we want Purple Dragon Games to become one of the best places in Siskiyou County to experience it. ALSO… Star Wars Unlimited now has a growing community gathering Tuesday nights after June 9th. This group started small, but momentum is building FAST. We’ve already seen players bringing upgraded decks, testing strategies, teaching newcomers, and discussing matchups like Rebel military tacticians planning a planetary assault. If you’ve been waiting for a local Star Wars Unlimited scene to emerge, now is the perfect time to jump in while the group is still growing organically. And honestly? Watching lightsaber duels happen two tables away from a Warhammer battle while Commander players yell across the room feels peak Purple Dragon Games. Speaking of Warhammer… “Recycling with a Vengeance” is bringing more hobby madness to the shop this season with guest-led creative miniature workshops focused on transforming trash, scraps, broken bits, and random materials into awesome terrain, kitbashes, and battlefield creations. Their Tuesday evening Team Jesus gatherings continue through the summer and remain one of the most unique communities meeting in the building. These aren’t stiff or formal events. They’re relaxed, discussion-driven evenings filled with fellowship, biblical exploration, creativity, and genuine conversation. BUT… The really big news is SANCTUM. After nearly a full year of development, testing, rewriting systems, rebuilding mechanics, balancing encounters, and refining the world INSIDE our store… Sanctum is officially entering BETA this June. Sanctum is a massive custom fantasy RPG blending steampunk kingdoms, supernatural warfare, celestial mystery, angels, demons, prophetic themes, political intrigue, survival, exploration, and tactical storytelling into one gigantic evolving world. Imagine a world where the calendar itself matters, kingdoms are preparing for a coming catastrophe, and players slowly uncover terrifying truths hidden beneath civilization. Something absolutely chaotic is coming to Purple Dragon Games on May 30, and honestly, we could not be more excited. We are officially hosting our FIRST EVER Chaos Draft: Festival in a Box, inspired by the insanity of MagicCon Las Vegas 2026. This is also a huge moment for us because we are excited to officially introduce more dedicated Magic support here at Purple Dragon Games with Director of MTG Jonathan Alvarez and Game Leader Wyatt Kendall joining the crew to help guide player experiences, organize events, answer questions, and help us create more awesome things for the local MTG community. Jonathan personally hand-picked this event because he wanted to kick things off with something memorable. Not just another draft night. Not another “normal” set release. He wanted something players would be talking about weeks later. And trust us… this is going to be one of THOSE nights. For players unfamiliar with Chaos Draft, here’s the quick explanation: instead of everybody drafting the same set, packs come from wildly different places across Magic history. Every booster feels like opening a portal to a different timeline. One minute you’re drafting goofy silver-border chaos cards. The next minute you’re staring at an old-school retro-frame bomb, a phyrexian nightmare creature, a bizarre Secret Lair reprint, or a card so obscure the entire table has to stop and read it together. This is the kind of draft where absolutely ridiculous things happen. You might build what feels like a perfectly normal red aggro deck… then lose to somebody who drafted an ancient enchantment nobody has seen in fifteen years. Somebody else might accidentally stumble into a combo that was never supposed to exist because cards from completely different eras suddenly collided at the same table. One player could be summoning goblins and causing complete nonsense while another player across the room is casting giant eldritch horrors from beyond the Blind Eternities. And honestly? That’s the magic of Chaos Draft. This event is not about solving a perfectly balanced format. It’s about discovery, reactions, weird interactions, laughter, and those moments where the entire room erupts because someone just resolved the most unhinged card imaginable. We know some people may look at the $35 entry and wonder why it costs more than a regular draft. Totally fair question. Festival in a Box products are premium and extremely limited. These boxes were originally connected to MagicCon Las Vegas and contain a massive mix of specialty products, mystery-style boosters, unique reprints, and unusual draft experiences you normally do not get at a standard Friday Night Magic event. You absolutely do NOT need to be a tournament grinder to enjoy this event. In fact, Chaos Draft is often MORE welcoming because nobody fully knows what to expect. Veteran players may recognize old mechanics, but everyone is reacting to the madness together. You are going to see players laughing, reading weird cards out loud, making terrible choices for the memes, and surviving completely absurd board states by pure luck and topdecks blessed by the cardboard gods. We will also have support ready throughout the night. A judge will be available to help answer questions and navigate strange interactions, and Wyatt will be helping players throughout the event as well. Since this is our first Chaos Draft, we want the experience to feel exciting and approachable whether you’ve been playing for twenty years or just recently learned how to tap lands. The event will run Swiss rounds, with prize tickets awarded based on wins. Those tickets can be redeemed for store credit toward packs, singles, snacks, or whatever catches your eye in the store. Players who reserve tickets online or in-store ahead of time will also receive FREE pizza and soda during the event so we can order food accordingly. This is a limited-seat event, and we genuinely expect it to fill quickly. Despite these challenges, the team saw potential in the building’s size and location to create something unique. The goal is to restore the building in phases, starting with essential repairs to make the space safe and welcoming. This approach allows the community to gradually experience the transformation while supporting ongoing improvements. Purple Dragon Games at the Golden State Fair From August 6–11 , Purple Dragon Games had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Golden State Fair —and what an amazing experience it was! Our booth was buzzing with excitement all week long. We brought a treasure trove of trading cards, comics, board games, and unique novelties  that captured the imagination of fairgoers young and old. One of the biggest highlights was our hair tinsel event , where visitors lined up to add a bit of sparkle and shine to their fair experience—bringing joy, laughter, and a touch of magic to the midway. The fair was more than just sales; it was about connection . We loved meeting so many people who share our passion for games, collectibles, and creativity. The outpouring of support from our community was overwhelming, and it reminded us why we do what we do. Every smile, every trade, every curious question at the booth made the week unforgettable. We’re so grateful to everyone who stopped by to shop, say hello, or join in the fun. Your energy and excitement made this event a true success for us.
