About the event

WARHAMMER COMMAND COUNCIL

Warhammer Command Council is Purple Dragon Games’ high-commitment Warhammer gathering built around Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition play. This is the table for players who are ready to sit down, deploy, and run a full game from start to finish with minimal ramp-up. While skill levels can vary within the group, the overall expectation is intermediate to advanced play, with many attendees being long-time hobbyists, competitive regulars, and occasional tournament winners. The tone is enthusiastic and welcoming, but the structure is purposeful: Command Council is not designed as a learn-to-play session. It is designed as a place where players who already understand the fundamentals can get meaningful, complete games in.

Command Council is run by the State of Jefferson War Gamers and the Lords of Dale Gaming Club, and it is hosted by Purple Dragon Games. That partnership matters because it sets the culture and the pace. These are organized communities that come prepared with armies, missions, and a plan to play. You can expect to see well-curated collections, practiced list-building, and players who enjoy the deeper layers of Warhammer: objective play, movement discipline, screening, trading units efficiently, and thinking several turns ahead. Many games lean toward full matched-play style experiences rather than quick demos, with battles commonly lasting multiple hours once they begin.

Although the posted event start time may say 1:00 PM, Command Council effectively starts earlier than that. Players commonly arrive ahead of time to set up terrain, review armies, discuss mission parameters, confirm points and lists, and coordinate pairings so that dice can start rolling as close to 1:00 PM as possible. This early setup is part of the rhythm of the group and is one reason the day runs smoothly. If you plan to participate, arriving early is strongly recommended, especially if you want a good chance at getting paired into a game.

Because these are long-form games, late joining is usually limited. Once pairings are set and armies are deployed, tables are generally “locked in” for the duration of that battle. Command Council isn’t structured like an open rotation where people constantly swap in and out. If you show up after games have begun, you are still welcome to watch, meet the community, and network for future pairings, but you may not be able to jump into an active match until the next game window. Players are welcome to walk up and play, but bringing your own units is strongly recommended. This gathering is oriented around players arriving with their lists ready and their models on hand. In contrast to a beginner event where shared armies and coaching are the main feature, Command Council assumes you have a force you can field and the baseline rules knowledge to play at table pace. That said, the community is known for being respectful, helpful, and willing to answer questions. The difference is simply the context: help is usually offered in the form of clarification, quick guidance, or tactical discussion between turns, rather than a full rules tutorial from the ground up.

Command Council also looks forward. While it is currently focused on 10th Edition, the group expects to adapt as Warhammer evolves (including a future shift to 11th Edition when that becomes the standard). The goal is to keep this gathering as the reliable place for serious, complete Warhammer games in Siskiyou County: show up prepared, start on time, play the full battle, and leave with a great game under your belt.

In short, Warhammer Command Council is for players who want real Warhammer sessions with real commitment: organized tables, full-length games, experienced opponents, and a community built around showing up ready to play. Hosted by Purple Dragon Games and run by the State of Jefferson War Gamers and Lords of Dale Gaming Club, it’s a consistent home for high-quality Warhammer 40K play.
