The journey officially begins Saturday, August 15! Celebrate the worldwide tabletop release of Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit at Purple Dragon Games with a full Draft Night from 4–8 PM. Entry is $24.99 per player and includes three Play Boosters for the draft, free pizza, and $5 in Dragon Coin prize support for every round you win.

The Hobbit is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Magic releases of the year, bringing players back to Middle-earth with Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin and his company of Dwarves, Gollum, Smaug, the treasures of Erebor, and plenty of familiar faces, artifacts, locations, and moments from the story. Early players have been talking about everything from the set's beautiful artwork and Tolkien flavor to its new mechanics and the fun of actually playing the cards in Limited.

There is plenty to discover when you crack your packs. The Hobbit includes rares and mythic rares, legendary characters, powerful artifacts, new versions of familiar Middle-earth cards, and special Booster Fun treatments to hunt for. The set introduces mechanics including Hone, Recruit, and Storied alongside returning mechanics such as Amass, creating plenty of new interactions to discover as you build a deck from scratch.

Never played Draft before? This is a great set to learn with. Each player begins with three Play Boosters. Everyone opens one pack, chooses a card, then passes the remaining cards to the next player. You continue choosing one card at a time as the packs travel around the table, then repeat the process with the next packs. At the end, you use the cards you selected, along with basic lands provided for deck building, to create a 40-card deck and play against the other drafters. Draft is part deck building, part strategy, and part treasure hunt because nobody knows exactly what will appear when those packs are opened.

Your $24.99 entry is designed to put the value back into playing Magic. Three The Hobbit Play Boosters have a combined manufacturer MSRP of $20.97, meaning nearly your entire entry fee is already represented by the three packs you draft and keep. Then the games begin.

For every round you win, you'll receive a $5 Purple Dragon Games Dragon Coin. Win one round and you've added $5 in store value to your night. Win two and you've earned $10. Go 3–0 and you've earned $15 in Dragon Coins on top of the cards you drafted and kept. Add in free pizza, and Draft Night gives you a chance to turn opening three packs into an entire evening of Magic while competing for additional value.

Best of all, Draft puts everyone on fresh ground. You don't need to arrive with an expensive deck or a carefully tuned list. Everyone starts the evening opening packs from the same set and has to build their strategy from what comes across the table. Experienced players can test their card evaluation and deck-building skills, while newer players get an approachable way to experience The Hobbit and discover cards they may want for future decks.
