Whether you're a longtime Magic veteran or a Marvel fan trying Magic for the first time, prerelease events are designed to be one of the most welcoming and exciting experiences in the game.

What Happens During a Prerelease?

Unlike a Draft event, where players take turns selecting cards from booster packs and passing them around the table, a Prerelease uses a format called Sealed Deck.

At the beginning of the event, each player opens all six boosters and builds a minimum 40-card deck using only the cards they opened, plus any basic lands provided by the store.

You'll have time to sort your cards, explore the new mechanics, build your deck, and ask questions before the first round begins.

This means every player starts on equal footing. Nobody needs to bring a deck from home, and everyone gets the thrill of discovering powerful cards for the first time together.

After deck construction, players will be paired for several Swiss rounds. Win or lose, you'll continue playing throughout the event and have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the new set.

No problem. Our experienced game leaders will be available throughout the event to help players understand the new mechanics, answer rules questions, assist with deck building, and make sure everyone feels comfortable.
