Limited Remaining Bilbo, Luckwearer Promos May Be Available

Gather your fellowship and bring your favorite Commander deck to Purple Dragon Games for The Hobbit MTG Commander Party on Sunday, August 23 from 4–8 PM. This is an evening built around casual Commander, meeting other Magic players, earning prizes, and celebrating The Hobbit together. Hobbit and Middle-earth themed decks are absolutely encouraged, but never expected. Your favorite Commander deck is welcome at the table.

Players will be organized into Commander pods of four for multiplayer games throughout the evening. Bring a deck you enjoy playing and prepare for the unpredictable alliances, big plays, clever politics, and spectacular board states that make Commander one of Magic's most popular ways to play. We'll also have prize support for game winners, giving each pod a little something extra to battle over.

Don't Have a Commander Deck? Come Anyway.

If you've been interested in Commander but haven't built a deck yet, don't let that keep you home. Talk to Purple Dragon Games staff before the event or when you arrive. We're happy to help you understand Commander, answer deck-building questions, and get you pointed in the right direction.

We also want everyone who buys a ticket to have an opportunity to actually play. If you don't have a Commander deck of your own, ask us about using a loaner deck for the event. Commander can look intimidating when you're staring at 100-card decks across the table, but the best way to learn is to sit down, shuffle up, and play with people who can help you along the way.

Important Information About the Bilbo Promo

Our original allocation included only 16 Bilbo, Luckwearer promotional cards, and our first Hobbit Commander Party takes place before this event. Any Bilbo promos available on Friday, August 28 will therefore be the remaining supply from the first Commander Party. That means a Bilbo promo is not guaranteed with admission to this second event. There may be only a small number remaining, and it is possible that all 16 will have already been distributed at our first event. If promotional cards remain, they will be available to eligible players while supplies last. Our limit of one Bilbo, Luckwearer promo per person across both Commander Party events still applies. Players who already received a Bilbo promo at the first event will not be eligible to receive another at the second event. This allows any remaining copies to reach players who have not yet received one. Please purchase your ticket for the Commander Party itself rather than specifically for the promotional card. The promo is a limited bonus for eligible players only if copies remain after our first event.

Bring Your Favorite Deck or Build a Fellowship

The Hobbit theme gives players a perfect excuse to dig through their collection and build something special. Bring Hobbits, Dwarves, Wizards, legendary creatures, treasures, food, adventures, or whatever Middle-earth inspiration sends you digging through your cards. You can go completely thematic, add a few flavorful cards to an existing deck, or ignore the theme altogether and simply bring the Commander deck you love playing.

The theme is there to make the evening more fun, not to restrict what you can play. A Hobbit-themed deck is encouraged, never required. If your favorite Commander has absolutely nothing to do with Hobbits, bring it anyway. Commander Party is about getting decks onto the table and having a good multiplayer game.

Four Players, One Table and Plenty of Commander Chaos

Commander is played differently from traditional one-on-one Magic. Our games will be arranged primarily into four-player pods, giving you three opponents and a much bigger battlefield to think about. You'll need to decide who poses the biggest threat, when to hold back, when to make your move, and occasionally whether that suspiciously friendly player across the table actually intends to keep their promise.

That's part of what makes Commander so much fun. The strongest deck doesn't automatically control the table. Politics, timing, deck matchups, unexpected combinations, and the decisions of three other players can completely change a game.

Whether you've played hundreds of Commander games or this will be one of your first, we'll work to get players seated and playing throughout the evening.

Your $10 ticket includes free pizza served during the event, along with organized Commander play and prize support for winners. Any remaining Bilbo promos are an additional limited bonus and are not included as a guaranteed part of admission. Come in, find your pod, grab some pizza, shuffle up, and settle in for a Friday evening of Commander at Purple Dragon Games. The Hobbit MTG Commander Party: Round Two takes place Friday, August 28 from 4–8 PM. Whether you missed our first Commander Party, want another night of Hobbit-themed Magic, or simply want an excuse to get your favorite Commander deck back onto the table, you're invited.
