Avatar Magic Draft

Prepare to channel elemental power — we’re celebrating the official release day of Avatar: The Last Airbender in Magic: The Gathering with a capture-the-elements draft! Join us Friday, November 21, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm for an epic draft event. Whether you’re a veteran planeswalker or just learning how the stack works, everyone is welcome to play, learn, and compete.

Why This Avatar Set Is a Must-Have

The Avatar: The Last Airbender set launches on November 21, 2025, making this draft one of the first opportunities to play with the new cards in person. This crossover expands Magic’s “Universes Beyond” line, bringing beloved characters, bending mechanics, and elemental flavor into the world of MTG.

Here’s what makes this set especially exciting:

• Elemental mechanics — Cards feature airbending, earthbending, waterbending, and firebending as keyword actions or abilities, letting you interact with permanents, play cards differently, or generate extra mana with theme flavor.

• Integration across formats — This set is legal in Standard and all formats, so your new cards aren’t just for Limited play — they'll work in constructed formats too.

How a Draft Works (Even if It’s Your First Time)

If you haven’t done a Magic draft before, here’s how it goes — with no pressure and plenty of room to learn:

1. Booster Packs

   Every participant receives three booster packs of the new set (Avatar: The Last Airbender). You’ll open one booster, choose a card, then pass the remaining cards to your neighbor. This continues until all cards are drafted. Then you open the second pack (usually passing in the opposite direction) and then the third.

2. Deckbuilding

   Once all cards are drafted, you build a minimum 40-card deck from your drafted cards plus basic lands (which the store can provide). You can include as many lands as needed but generally 17–18 is common in a three-pack draft.

3. Matches / Rounds

   Players face off in matches (usually best-of-three games) against others in your pod. You’ll play several rounds (Swiss format commonly) so you stay active and get plenty of games even if you lose early.

4. Winning & Prizes

   Top finishers receive a free card pack each win!

Throughout the process, judges and staff are on hand to explain rules, answer questions, and help newcomers get comfortable. We aim to make your first draft (or your 100th) fun and approachable.
