Disabled Access Proposal
HELPING HANDS LOADING ZONE SUPPORT
Downtown projects like this are not always easy, and we understand that creating changes to street access can take time, discussion, and strong community support. Still, during the first few months at our new Broadway location, many elderly and disabled visitors, delivery drivers, and families have already approached us requesting easier front-door access. Because of that, we feel this is something worth trying for our community.
Purple Dragon Games is open 6 days a week and regularly hosts large-scale community events that involve loading and unloading and large food deliveries for gatherings and activities. Alongside these events, we also regularly welcome guests with mobility challenges, handicap placards, walkers, wheelchairs, medical limitations, mail carriers, food delivery drivers, and families assisting elderly loved ones attending activities at our store.
Many customers have shared that getting from rear parking to our front doors can be difficult, especially during peak hours when parking behind the building is limited and the walk becomes long or challenging for those with mobility concerns. While rear parking is helpful for general use, it is often not practical for elderly guests, disabled visitors, delivery services, or loading needs connected to our larger weekly events.
Because of these repeated requests and operational needs, we are exploring the possibility of proposing a small loading and drop-off zone directly in front of our doors at 309 S. Broadway Street. The vision is simple: create a safer and more practical curbside space where elderly and disabled guests can be dropped off closer to the entrance, while also helping support short-term delivery access, mail service, event loading, food delivery pickup, and unloading needs throughout the week.
We know projects like this can be difficult to accomplish with city planning and approval processes, and there is no guarantee it will move forward. Still, we believe caring for the elderly, disabled, and those who need easier access is worth making the effort. If enough members of the community feel the same way, perhaps together we can help create a small improvement that benefits not only our store, but potentially others along Broadway who also serve visitors with accessibility and delivery needs.
We are approaching this with positivity, patience, and hope for a more welcoming downtown experience for everyone. If you would like to support this proposal, please consider signing below.
